Dataset on Mediolateral Upper-Body Gyroscopic Moment Perturbations during Overground Walking
Description
This dataset includes kinematic, kinetic, and EMG data recorded during a perturbed walking experiment using an Angular Momentum Perturbator (AMP). The study involved sixteen adult participants, consisting of one female and fifteen males. Four experimental conditions were tested in consecutive sets. In the first condition, participants walked at their preferred speed on a gait track without wearing the AMP or a safety harness ('base'). In the second condition, they repeated the same walking task while wearing a body-weight support safety harness ('ryse'). In the third condition, participants walked while wearing the AMP with a spinning flywheel, though no active torque perturbations were applied ('gyro'). In the final condition, 48 trials were conducted, including 40 randomized trials with active torque perturbations and 8 control trials without perturbations ('pert'). The 40 perturbation trials comprised four distinct conditions, with 10 repetitions each, involving contralateral and ipsilateral torque directions in the frontal plane at either midstance of the right leg or touchdown of the left leg. The gimbal position and intensity level were held constant for all participants.
