dc.description This dataset consists of 3840 gravure printed, high-resolution digitized images of size 11 x 11 mm (1040 x 1040 px) in tif-format. The dataset can be used for the analysis of hydrodynamic pattern formation in the printing nip during fluid transfer. The images show dot patterns, finger patterns ("viscous fingering") or a mixture of both. The dataset is divided into several folders (images_... .zip). Additional information is written in the README- and csv- files. Background of the dataset: In functional printing e.g. for printed electronics, ultra-thin, large-area homogeneous surfaces are required. Since pattern formation phenomena in printing processes lead to surface inhomogeneity, we aim to understand them. The goal is to find mathematical models to describe pattern formation und thus be able to control it in a desired way for the intended application.
