Abstract

Description

This dataset contains the experimental data underlying the results presented in the publication "Spray Development of Flashboiling Methanol Single-Hole Sprays under Varying Ambient Conditions" (Erhard et al., Applied Thermal Engineering, XXXX). The data were acquired on the optically accessible cross-flow test bench at IFP Énergies nouvelles (IFPEN) in Rueil-Malmaison, France, using diffuse backlight illumination (DBI) imaging. The dataset includes the ensemble-averaged spray penetration and projected spray area as a function of time and penetration, respectively, for all investigated operating conditions. The parameters varied include fuel temperature (50–141 °C), air mass flow rate (0–500 kg/h), ambient pressure (1–4 bar), and ambient air temperature (23–100 °C). Measurements were conducted using a single-hole ECN Spray M injector with methanol and isooctane as test fuels at a fuel pressure of 180 bar.
