EUROPEAN COOPERATION IN THE FIELD OF SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL RESEARCH - COST RESOLUTION OF THE COST SENIOR OFFICIALS COMMITTEE concerning the Czech Republic's and Slovak Republic's membership of COST (Adopted at the Senior Officials' meeting held in Brussels on 1 April 1993)

THE COST SENIOR OFFICIALS COMMITTEE -

Having regard to the general resolution on scientific and technical research and development projects adopted by the Conference of European Research Ministers on 22 and 23 November 1971,

Having regard to the conclusions of the Committee of Senior Officials on the future role of COST adopted on 23 and 24 June 1986 (1),

Having regard to the resolution of the Council of the European Communities concerning cooperation in the field of scientific and technical research (COST) and central and eastern European States adopted on 29 June 1990 (2),

Having regard to the resolution adopted by the Ministers of States participating in COST adopted on 21 November 1991 (3),

Whereas the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic, a former member of COST, has been split into two new Republics;

Whereas the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic, which are successors under international law to the former Czech and Slovak Federal Republic, have requested membership of COST;

Whereas scientists in organizations established in the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic already participate in a significant number of COST concerted actions;

GIVES its agreement to the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic joining the COST framework as full members;

WELCOMES two new members joining COST and looks forward to continuing the fruitful collaboration which is already underway;

UNDERTAKES, to ensure that scientists from the two new COST States are rapidly integrated into the overall framework of COST cooperation;
