RESOLUTION of the Council and the Representatives of the Governments of the Member States, meeting within the Council of 25 July 1985 on the European Foundation (85/C 199/01)

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES AND THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE GOVERNMENTS OF THE MEMBER STATES, MEETING WITHIN THE COUNCIL,

recalling the Agreement of 29 March 1982 establishing the European Foundation;

recalling the provisions of Article 9 (2) of that Agreement;

desirous that this Agreement should enter into force as soon as possible;

noting the fact that Article 4 of the Agreement invites the European Foundation to cooperate with any institutions and bodies active in the same or similar fields and wishing to provide assistance to the Foundation;

underlining the importance of this cooperation;

recalling the provisions of the Declaration annexed to the Agreement, concerning appropriate cooperation or collaboration with the institutions and organizations referred to hereunder;

whereas the Council of Europe, which brings together 21 European countries, has, since its foundation in 1949, carried out a considerable amount of work to promote education and culture in Europe;

whereas the European Cultural Foundation in Amsterdam has, since 1954, been carrying out activities parallel to, or convergent with, the objectives of the European Foundation in a large number of European countries, in which offices, centres or organizations affiliated to the Amsterdam Foundation are established;

whereas the European Cultural Centre in Delphi has been promoting cultural events since 1977 at European level and organizes the reception of European artists and intellectuals;

whereas other similar institutions and organizations have activities parallel to or convergent with the objectives of the European Foundation;

recalling that Article 10 of the Agreement provides that at least half of the members of the third category shall be chosen from among persons from institutions or organizations operating in the same fields as the Foundation,

consider it desirable, in order to ensure the cooperation referred to, that amongst the members of the third category of the Board should be appointed a suitable number of representatives of the Council of Europe, the European Cultural Foundation in Amsterdam, the Cultural Centre in Delphi and other similar institutions and organizations, by virtue of their activities being parallel to or convergent with the objectives of the Foundation.
