AMENDMENT TO THE RULES OF PROCEDURE

adopted by the Committee of the Regions at its 29th Plenary Session, held on 2 and 3 June 1999

At its 29th Plenary Session, held on 2 and 3 June 1999, the Committee of the Regions adopted the following amendments to its Rules of Procedure;

1. A new Rule 30A shall be introduced after the existing rule 30, as follows; "Rule 30A

1. The Bureau shall engage the Secretary-General on the basis of a decision adopted by a two-thirds majority of its members, pursuant to the provisions of Article 8 of the Conditions of employment of other servants of the European Communities.

2. The Secretary-General shall be engaged for five years. The detailed provisions of the contract of employment shall be laid down by the Bureau.

3. The powers which the Conditions of employment of other servants of the European Communities confer on the authority responsible for concluding contracts shall be exercised, in the case of the Secretary-General, by the bureau."

2. The first indent of Rule 31, paragraph 1, shall be deleted.

3. Rule 43, paragraph 3, shall be replaced by the following; "The new rules shall come into force the day after their publication in the Official Journal."
