COUNCIL RESOLUTION of 16 June 1988 concerning export from and import into the Community of certain dangerous chemicals (88/C 170/01)

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES,

Whereas it has adopted Regulation (EEC) No 1734/88 of 16 June 1988 concerning export from and import into the Community of certain dangerous chemicals (1);

NOTES that certain Member States already implement measures in their territory, in addition to those provided for in the Regulation, including for one Member State the system described as "prior informed consent" of the country importing the dangerous chemicals. In this context, the Council would welcome action by Member States to test the practical value of such approaches and to acquire experience of implementing them;

INVITES the Commission to examine this question in greater detail and to submit, where necessary, in the light of the information supplied by the Member States and developments in relevant international practices, appropriate proposals with a view to the possible adjustment of the Community instrument;

NOTES with great interest the intention of the Commission fully and actively to participate in the work of the Ad hoc Working Group of Experts of the United Nations Environment Programme dealing with the environmentally safe management of chemicals.
