COUNCIL RESOLUTION of 3 March 1975 on the convention for the prevention of marine pollution from land-based sources
THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES,
Having regard to the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community;
Having regard to the draft resolution submitted by the Commission;
Whereas it is in the interests of the Member States and the Community to take effective measures as quickly as possible to protect the sea from pollution, including pollution from land-based sources;
Whereas the Council has taken Decision No 75/437/EEC of 3 March 1975 concluding the convention for the prevention of marine pollution from land-based sources;
Invites the Member States affected by the convention for the prevention of marine pollution from land-based sources to sign the convention as soon as possible, and in any case before 31 May 1975;
Considers it advisable to ensure coherent implementation of the undertakings entered into under this convention, of those which may result from the European convention for the protection of international watercourses against pollution, being drawn up by the Council of Europe, and, more generally, of the other commitments arising from the carrying out of the programme of action of the Communities on the environment (1);
Will endeavour to examine the proposal for a Decision on the reduction of pollution caused by certain dangerous substances discharged into the aquatic environment of the Community with a view to taking a decision by 30 June 1975.
