amending Annex I (Veterinary and phytosanitary matters) to the EEA Agreement

THE EEA JOINT COMMITTEE,

Having regard to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, as amended by the Protocol adjusting the Agreement on the European Economic Area, hereinafter referred to as "the Agreement", and in particular Article 98 thereof,

Whereas:

(1) Annex I to the Agreement was amended by Decision of the EEA Joint Committee No 189/1999 of 17 December 1999(1).

(2) Commission Regulation (EC) No 2194/98 of 12 October 1998 amending Regulation (EC) No 2629/97 as regards ear-tags in the framework of the system for the identification and registration of bovine animals(2) is to be incorporated into the Agreement.

(3) Commission Regulation (EC) No 509/1999 of 8 March 1999 concerning an extension of the maximum period laid down for the application of ear-tags to bison (Bison bison spp.)(3) is to be incorporated into the Agreement.

(4) Commission Regulation (EC) No 331/1999 of 12 February 1999 amending Regulation (EC) No 2629/97 as regards passports in the framework of the system for the identification and registration of bovine animals(4) is to be incorporated into the Agreement.

(5) Commission Regulation (EC) No 1663/1999 of 28 July 1999 amending Regulation (EC) No 2629/97 as regards eartags in the framework of the system for the identification and registration of bovine animals(5) is to be incorporated into the Agreement.

(6) Commission Regulation (EC) No 2680/1999 of 17 December 1999 approving a system of identification for bulls intended for cultural and sporting events(6) is to be incorporated into the Agreement.

(7) This Decision is not to apply to Iceland and Liechtenstein,

HAS DECIDED AS FOLLOWS:

Article 1

The following points shall be inserted after point 86 (Commission Decision 98/653/EC) in Part 1.2 of Chapter I of Annex I to the Agreement:

"86a. 399 R 0509: Commission Regulation (EC) No 509/1999 of 8 March 1999 concerning an extension of the maximum period laid down for the application of ear-tags to bison (Bison bison spp.) (OJ L 60, 9.3.1999, p. 53).

86b. 399 R 2680: Commission Regulation (EC) No 2680/1999 of 17 December 1999 approving a system of identification for bulls intended for cultural and sporting events (OJ L 326, 18.12.1999, p. 16)."

Article 2

The following indents shall be added in point 71 (Commission Regulation (EC) No 2629/97) in Part 1.2 of Chapter I of Annex I to the Agreement:

"- 398 R 2194: Commission Regulation (EC) No 2194/98 of 12 October 1998 (OJ L 276, 13.10.1998, p. 4),

- 399 R 0331: Commission Regulation (EC) No 331/1999 of 12 February 1999 (OJ L 40, 13.2.1999, p. 27),

- 399 R 1663: Commission Regulation (EC) No 1663/1999 of 28 July 1999 (OJ L 197, 29.7.1999, p. 27)."

Article 3

The texts of Commission Regulations (EC) Nos 2194/98, 331/1999, 509/1999, 1663/1999 and 2680/1999 in the Norwegian language, to be published in the EEA Supplement to the Official Journal of the European Communities, shall be authentic.

Article 4

This Decision shall enter into force on 31 March 2001, provided that all the notifications under Article 103(1) of the Agreement have been made to the EEA Joint Committee(7).

Article 5

This Decision shall be published in the EEA Section of, and in the EEA Supplement to, the Official Journal of the European Communities.
