amending Annex IX (Financial services) to the EEA Agreement

THE EEA JOINT COMMITTEE,

Having regard to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, as amended by the Protocol adjusting the Agreement on the European Economic Area, hereinafter referred to as "the Agreement", and in particular Article 98 thereof,

Whereas:

(1) Annex IX to the Agreement was amended by Decision No 117/1999 of the EEA Joint Committee of 30 September 1999(1).

(2) Directive 2000/26/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 May 2000 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to insurance against civil liability in respect of the use of motor vehicles and amending Council Directives 73/239/EEC and 88/357/EEC (Fourth motor insurance Directive)(2) is to be incorporated into the Agreement,

HAS DECIDED AS FOLLOWS:

Article 1

Annex IX to the Agreement shall be amended as follows:

1. The following point shall be inserted after point 10 (third Council Directive 90/232/EEC):

"10a. 32000 L 0026: Directive 2000/26/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 May 2000 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to insurance against civil liability in respect of the use of motor vehicles and amending Council Directives 73/239/EEC and 88/357/EEC (Fourth motor insurance Directive) (OJ L 181, 20.7.2000, p. 65)."

2. The following indent shall be added in point 2 (First Council Directive 73/239/EEC) and point 7 (Second Council Directive 88/357/EEC):

"- 32000 L 0026: Directive 2000/26/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 May 2000 (OJ L 181, 20.7.2000, p. 65)."

Article 2

The texts of Directive 2000/26/EC in the Icelandic and Norwegian languages, to be published in the EEA Supplement to the Official Journal of the European Communities, shall be authentic.

Article 3

This Decision shall enter into force on 1 February 2001, provided that all the notifications under Article 103(1) of the Agreement have been made to the EEA Joint Committee(3).

Article 4

This Decision shall be published in the EEA Section of, and in the EEA Supplement to, the Official Journal of the European Communities.
